Somerset Creamery

Somerset Creamery

Somerset Creamery Front  somerset creamery ice cream outside

Tucked away on a slow back road, in a simple unassuming building Somerset Creamery doesn’t look like much when you drive up to it.  There is a noticeable lack of the usual Cape Cod kitch.  I didn’t see any little windmills or light houses, there are no crab boxes on the roof, no fake fish anywhere.  Even the inside of Somerset is pretty simple, a clean white counter greets you, and large chrome ice cream coolers stand behind the counter.

Tess and I pulled our usual act of not knowing what the heck we wanted.  We will sit and stand looking at the list of flavors, letting people cut in front of us, etc etc.  But the service at Somerset is AMAZING!  They wouldn’t let us just stand there.  Every time we mentioned a flavor, the staff would let us know what was in the flavor, how popular it was, and the thing that really got us, they kept giving us FREE SAMPLES.  Lots of them.  I think we made them stop after giving us each two free samples, but we could have tried every flavor on the list.

We finally settled and got some ice cream.  Tess got mocha peanut butter cup in a cup and I got black raspberry in one of their fresh made daily waffle cones.  We didn’t know just what to expect, but boy were we happy with what we got.  The waffle cone was amazing, I must order you to get one of these things, they cost a little more (85 cents) but for the amount of extra cream you get (yes they are packed all the way to the bottom) its more than worth it.

The ice cream was really good, it was light, airy, smooth and delicious.  The flavors were very strong without being too strong.  They popped in your mouth and really lit up the tongue.  The peanut butter in the peanut butter cups was soft and tasted just like the good stuff you get at the store.  The black raspberry was really flavorful with a lovely after taste of raspberry, and not a single seed to ruin the creaminess.  And I can tell you why they put creamery in the name of this place, the ice cream is so smooth.  Not a single chunk of ice was found in any of cream.  And I really can not say enough about the cones, you could eat just the cone and be happy, its that good.

Somerset Creamery is a simple little store with ample seating outside and great ice cream.  Don’t be fooled by its plain appearance a wonderful scoop of ice cream waits for you inside, and the people that work there are really wonderful.  They let us try the cranberry bog (walnuts cranberry’s crazins and cranberry ice cream) and it was amazing.  That’s what I am getting next time.

Thanks to your wonderful website, I was able to find Somerset Creamery late one night when I was craving some good ice cream close to my house. I was not disappointed with Somerset. I agree with you that the ice cream was ultra creamy, and exceptionally delicious, but it still had that little bit of icy grit that reminds you that you are eating homemade ice cream and not something that’s overly processed and borderline too close to being frozen yogurt. I had a scoop of mint chocolate chip and one of cookie dough, and it was heaven.

  2. [...] We have said it before, if you are traveling down 28a you really should be going to Somerset Creamery.  Smitty’s Too is average at best, and should only be visited if you would like to pick up some veggies at the same time. [...]

    Thanks for your website.
Please note that in addition to the fabulous ice cream - Cranberry Bog is the best in the world! - SOMERSET’s frozen yogurts are TERRIFIC! I am a fan of the coffee heath, chocolate almond, black raspberry, and the cranberry - all frozen yogurts that taste like ice cream! Enjoy!

The cranberybog ice cream in the waffle cone is amaising! The service is always fantastic very friendly people. The only problem is they have no restrooms however I watch an autistic boy and he needed to go the servers were wonderful and let me go back with him. Again get the cranberybog in the home made waffle cone. You will not regret it!

Somerset has been our family’s favorite ice cream place for 8 years!!!I couldn’t wait to see how they rated. We tried Smitty’s II but it just didn’t cut it. Don’t forget the waffle cups!!!! My son’s favorite. A friend of mine went 3 times in one day for the chocolate walnut.

The homemade waffle cones are awesome

Even better than the ice cream is the service. The young staff is courteous, friendly and efficient.

I had heard about Somerset way out in California. It had been so hyped that I thought it could never live up to everything I had been told. I went last fall (2005) for my first time… and Somerset doesn’t disappoint. I have eaten my way though many countries, and I can say with confidence, Somerset is some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had. Their butter pecan is awesome, but the two that really float my boat are cranberry bog and grapenut.
Five star covered cones all the way!

Thanks for the great website… ice cream lovers unite!
